Coronation Street’s Tracy Shaw issues courageous new update amid cancer diagnosis
Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw has issued a courageous new update following her cancer diagnosis, with the actor thanking her followers for their “advice and support” amid her recovery process.
The star, who played Maxine Peacock on the ITV soap, confirmed in April that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. In the subsequent months, she has documented her progress via social media.
In a new post on Instagram, Shaw provided an update following a second round of chemotherapy, writing: “Chemo 2 hit hard. Prepared for side effects this time, Thank you for all your advice and support 🙏🏻”.
“Grateful chemo is hitting hard because imagine how the HER2 positive cancer feels👏🏻 I’m still standing 🫡 So many messages I haven’t caught up with, but I will get there I promise x Love light and peace to everyone’s Sunday 🕊️🙏🏻❤️,” she added.
The post, which was shared on Sunday (21 June), also contained a montage of the actor throughout her recovery journey, with the star having shaved her head earlier this month.
Shaw, who appeared on Corrie for eight years before departing in 2003, was supported by several followers in the comment section, with fellow soap star Kym Marsh calling the actor “brave”.
“You are truly amazing Tracy. Keep going. Stay positive. You will get through it, stay strong. Love and positivity on its way xx,” wrote one follower, while another added: “Keep on keeping on – ❤️sending so much love.”
A fourth follower echoed these sentiments, commenting: “No amount of messages or hearts will make you feel better but know someone is feeling inspired not to give up by you sharing and being so honest and vulnerable.”

Earlier this month, the actor appeared on Lorraine to discuss the impact of her social media posts, sharing: “It isn’t an easy path and I’m only sharing it because there are millions of ladies and gentlemen who are going through the same thing.
“The survivors are just amazing… the ones who are reaching out and really giving me advice and tips. Unless you’ve been there, you don’t really know just how awful it really feels because there’s nothing really normal about your life anymore.”
