Coronation Street’s Maria to make desperate demand in Theo death plot

Coronation Street fans see Maria Connor pushed to breaking point next week, amid the killer secret that her husband Gary Windass is keeping for Sarah Platt.

Gary came close to telling Maria everything after she accused him of having an affair with his ex-partner Sarah, when really, he’s been helping to cover up the fact she murdered Theo Silverton.

In the end, Gary couldn’t go through with telling Maria, and their marriage has been hanging by a thread ever since.

Yet as she’s asked to provide Gary with an alibi yet again for the night Theo died, Maria finally snaps…

“Why should Maria carry on lying to the police if Gary hasn’t got the decency to be honest with her? They’re meant to be a team, but Maria is clearly not Gary’s priority in this situation,” explains our Corrie source.

Gary doesn’t want to lose Maria, yet by his own admission, he’ll do anything for Sarah. The police come knocking again next week, this time visiting Maria at the salon to ask that she go over her statement again regarding Gary’s whereabouts when Theo was killed.

As DS Connor-Swain and her colleague pile on the pressure, Maria sticks to her original story that Gary was at home with her.

Yet when she heads home and insists that he tells her everything he knows about that night, will Gary finally ‘fess up?

Later, Maria runs into Kit Green in the Rovers as the detective stews over being taken off Theo’s case.

As Maria admits that she and Gary are in a bad place and that she’s sick of all the secrets and lies, how long can Gary continue to help Sarah get away with murder?

Speaking recently about her character’s guilt, Tina O’Brien – who plays Sarah – explained: “Based on previous episodes, there were a lot of people who thought Sarah was protecting Gary or that Sarah and Gary maybe saw something that night and were trying to protect somebody else, when in fact it was actually Sarah, which I think will have come as a shock to a lot of people.

“I was really shocked, but for me personally, I completely understand how it happened and why it happened. For me to get into her character and her head, I feel like, in that moment, she didn’t feel like she had any other choice.”

She added: “There was a lot of debate in the green room as soon as we were told there was going to be a murderer. A lot of people were playing Cluedo. First off some of the cast got told that they were involved in the storyline, but they weren’t the murderer. So by the time it got to me to go for my meeting, I was a bit like, ‘I think it’s me’.

“But I genuinely didn’t worry – at the end of the day this job is incredible, but to be an actor is not necessarily a job for life. So I just was really excited to be given the honour of being the murderer, and then hopefully, however it plays out, I’ll enjoy Sarah’s arc.”
