Next week’s Coronation Street sees the mystery surrounding Theo’s murder take another dramatic turn as Maria lets something slip to Kit that could have major consequences for Gary.

Maria has been standing by her husband throughout the investigation, insisting she was with him on the night Theo died. But with the police refusing to let the case go and the pressure mounting, it’s becoming harder and harder for her to keep the story straight.

The drama kicks off with Kit feeling frustratedafter being taken off Theo’s murder investigation.

Although he’s no longer officially working the case, Kit can’t help keeping a close eye on what’s happening, especially when doubts continue to grow over the statements being given.

Meanwhile, Detective Lisa Swain and DC McLaughlin pay Maria another visit at the salon, wanting to go over her statement one more time.

The repeated questioning immediately puts Maria on edge.

Will Kit continue digging? (Picture: ITV)

Despite the pressure, she sticks firmly to her original version of events, once again insisting she spent the evening with Gary.

But it’s clear she’s becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the situation.

Once she’s back home, Maria’s patience finally snaps.

After spending days defending Gary, she demands he tells her exactly what happened on the night Theo was killed.

It’s obvious she’s no longer convinced she’s getting the full truth, and the cracks in their relationship continue to widen.

Maria has been trying to trust Gary, but every new development seems to raise more questions than answers.

Has he been hiding something all along?

Or is he simply trying to protect his family from becoming caught up in the investigation?

Either way, Maria is clearly reaching the end of her tether.

Later, she heads to the Rovers for a drink, where she ends up opening up to Kit.

In a moment of frustration, Maria admits that things between her and Gary aren’t in a good place anymore.

She’s exhausted by all the secrecy and admits she’s fed up with his constant lies and half-truths.

While it might seem like nothing more than someone venting about their relationship, Maria’s confession could be exactly what Kit has been waiting to hear.

Even though he’s no longer leading the investigation, Kit knows that strained relationships often reveal far more than official interviews ever do.

Hearing Maria admit she doesn’t fully trust Gary is bound to reinforce his own suspicions that something isn’t adding up.

Whether Maria realises it or not, her emotional outburst could end up giving Kit another reason to believe Gary knows more than he’s letting on.

The timing certainly couldn’t be worse.

With the murder investigation still ongoing, every slip of the tongue has the potential to change the direction of the case.
