Coronation Street star Jude Riordan has admitted that he, and not his Weatherfield alter-ego, has suffered an unfortunate injury as his latest storyline took a devastating turn.
As fans of the ITV soap know, the teenage actor plays Sam Blakeman, and has done since his debut in 2020, when the character was revealed as the son of Nick Tilsley and the late Natasha Blakeman.
While having been involved in a number of big storylines over the years, Jude appears to be tackling Samâs biggest plot to date. As viewers have seen, Sam hasnât been himself ever since he discovered that Will Dricoll was being groomed by his coach and teacher, Megan Walsh.
When the pair realised what Sam knew, Megan threatened him into keeping it quiet. But eventually, Sam ended up in hospital after taking too many tablets not prescribed to him, and usually used for those with ADHD, as he struggled with Meganâs threats and school pressures.
While in the hospital, he eventually confessed what he knew to step-mother Leanne Battersby and her sister, Eva Price, who is Willâs stepmother. The bombshell has since left the Driscolls in turmoil, with Will having spent weeks standing by his and Meganâs story that he had an out-of-control crush she tried to shut down.
Alongside the Driscolls, trying to get justice for Will, who has now been seen reporting Megan to the police, viewers have seen Samâs mental state deteriorate. After thinking he had been terrorised by Will, it was revealed that Sam had been alone all along, confirming fansâ suspicions that heâs been experiencing visual and auditory hallucinations.
As the hard-hitting storyline plays out, Jude was seen taking to social media on Friday (May 15) to share that he had suffered an unfortunate injury. Sharing a snap of himself in the corridors at Corrieâs Salford-based building, the young star could be seen on crutches and his foot in a moon boot.
âA fractured ankle,â he typed alongside the image. âUnfortunately irl [in real life], not Sam!â Jude then added in a comment: âWhat a week,â alongside a sad face emoji.

Judeâs update came as fans were left heartbroken to see Samâs hallucinations worsen during Fridayâs (May 15) edition of Corrie. After Nick and Toyah Battersby asked Roy Cropper if he could spend some time with Sam player chess, the beloved cafe owner. But worryingly, when Roy had to pop out to a builder at Royâs Rolls, Sam hallucinated his pal, who ended up sharing how Nick might not actually want him in his life.
When the real Roy returned, Sam thanked him for being so honest with him. Later, as their time together came to an end, Roy expressed his concerns to Nick and Toyah about the teenâs anxious state. Sam then met up with Roy again, but in a damaging twist, he warned Sam to âtrust no oneâ and that people like them had a lot of enemies because they felt âthreatenedâ by their intellectual way of thinking. But as viewers again saw, Roy wasnât talking to Sam and it was all in his mind.
Coronation Streetâs Sam Blakeman falls unconscious in the middle of the Street next week, just as the net closes in on Megan Walsh. Will Samâs health crisis bring on Meganâs downfall?
In the cafĂŠ, Nina Lucas canât help but notice that Sam is far from his usual cheery self. She confides in Eva Price that the youngster has barely touched his food and seems all over the place.
Eva makes her way towards Sam for a chat, but before she can get to him, Megan turns up at the cafĂŠ â which triggers the teenager to make a run for itâŚ
âSam barely makes it a few steps outside Royâs, then he hits the ground,â our Corrie insider reveals. âEva sprints towards him as Megan follows close behind her. Crouching down, Eva attends to Sam, while Megan dials for an ambulance.
âLittle does Eva know that the woman in front of her is responsible for poor Samâs suffering. Could this ordeal be the trigger that persuades Sam to come clean about Megan?â
At the hospital, Leanne takes a seat by Samâs bedside, where she suggests that his upcoming exams arenât the real reason that he started to take ADHD medication â and that itâs now time to open up about whatever is troubling him.
With Leanne so clearly desperate to help, will Sam tell all about the hell that Megan has put him through?
âSam braces himself to spill the beans,â reveals our insider. âBut just at that moment, Eva peeks around the hospital door. Sam knows Eva well, but heâs nowhere near as close with her as he is with Leanne. Not to mention the fact that what he knows about Megan and Will impacts Evaâs family directly.

âSo, with that in mind, itâs hard to know whether Sam will muster up the courage to share all the disturbing details about Megan. Eva and Leanne are both kind and understanding souls, so hereâs hoping that Sam will finally feel safe enough to unload all that weight he is carrying on his shoulders.â
In the aftermath of Samâs accident, pressure begins to mount on Megan. At the same time, Samâs loved ones come together to support him, which is a welcome relief given how much he has hidden from them over the last few weeks
Later in the week, Eva, Ben, Toyah, Ollie and Leanne share a grim meeting in the Rovers backroom. There, Meganâs past comes to the fore as the Driscolls are left to wrap their heads around another shock discovery.
Protective dad Ben is the picture of a broken man when he turns to Eva, but can he keep himself together for his family? Or will he and Eva struggle to cope with the reality they now face?
âBen looks as though heâs been hit by a ton of bricks,â sighs our spy. âThe fact that Leanne and Toyah are with Eva, Ben and Ollie at the time of the revelation is a sure sign that itâs something incredibly seriousâŚâ
Coronation Street bosses began a promo campaign for these episodes at the weekend, as a tense trailer offered the first look at Meganâs downfall.
With shocking truths coming to light, will Megan finally get whatâs coming to her? And if so, is she doomed to rot in HMP Weatherfield â or face an even more sinister fate?
