Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley reveals whether she’s leaving in cast shake-up
Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has discussed her future on the ITV soap amid a major cast shake-up, which has seen reports that a big figure in the Dingle family could be departing in the near future.
The actor debuted as Mandy Dingle back in 1995, with her first stint in the series coming to an end six years later. She returned to the soap in 2019, and has been a popular figure ever since.
During an appearance in today’s episode of Loose Women, Riley was questioned about her future on the soap, with Jane Moore remarking that she had “read” that the

Riley, however, dismissed the rumours, replying: “I’m not leaving. No, I’m not leaving at all. We can quash that completely. I’m very much staying as Mandy Dingle for a very long time.”
The news comes amid a tumultuous time on the soap, with a major cast shake-up being in the works. Earlier this month, it was reported that Bradley Johnson, who plays Riley’s on-screen adoptive son Vinny, was departing later this year.

It has also been reported that Nick Miles, who plays Jimmy King, is leaving after 22 years in the role, while Olivia Bromley’s eight-year stint as Dawn Fletcher is reportedly coming to an end too. Furthermore, Georgia Jay confirmed her exit as Steph Miligan today.
It’s not all bad news, however, as some familiar faces will be coming back. Chris Coghill is set to reprise his role as Kev Townsend later this year, while Patsy Kensit is returning as Sadie King after two decades away.
“I am really excited to return to Emmerdale,” said Kensit. “I treasure the years I was here before. Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing. The cast and crew are absolutely brilliant and I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Patsy back to the cast and crucially to see the iconic Sadie King storm back into the village,” added Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw earlier this month.
“Her return will be explosive and guaranteed to shock. Sadie’s seductive demeanour, combined with her utterly ruthless nature, are set to deliver a spectacular and highly dramatic touch of class to the Yorkshire Dales.”
Emmerdale fans are bracing themselves for even more dramatic changes behind the scenes as speculation continues to swirl around the future of several beloved characters. Following weeks of rumours regarding cast exits, returning legends, and major storyline shake-ups, another familiar face from the long-running ITV soap has now spoken publicly about their future in the village.
Over the past few months, viewers have noticed a growing sense of transition within the Yorkshire-based drama. A number of iconic characters have either quietly disappeared from storylines or become central to emotional exit plots, leading many fans to fear that Emmerdale could be preparing for one of its biggest cast reshuffles in years.
One of the stars now addressing the speculation is fan-favourite actor Dominic Brunt, who has portrayed Paddy Kirk for nearly three decades. Speaking during a recent television interview, Brunt admitted that he understands why viewers are worried about the future of long-standing characters, especially after several reports suggested producers are planning major changes to refresh the series.
However, the actor reassured audiences that he currently has no plans to leave the soap.
“I still absolutely love working on Emmerdale,” Brunt explained during the interview. “People always assume someone is leaving whenever there’s a dramatic storyline or when cast changes happen around them, but I’m still very happy here. Paddy has plenty more stories left to tell.”
His comments immediately sparked relief among fans online, many of whom feared the character could be heading for an emotional exit after recent episodes placed Paddy under increasing pressure both personally and professionally.
Social media quickly exploded with reactions after clips from the interview circulated online. Many longtime viewers admitted they could not imagine the village without Paddy, who has become one of the soap’s most recognisable and dependable characters over the years.
One fan wrote: “Emmerdale without Paddy wouldn’t feel the same at all. He’s part of the heart of the show.”
Another viewer added: “Thank goodness he’s staying. Too many familiar faces are already disappearing.”
The concern from fans comes at a time when the ITV soap is undergoing one of its most uncertain periods in recent memory. Reports continue to suggest that several major cast members could be leaving before the end of the year, while producers are also said to be planning explosive new arrivals and shocking storylines designed to reinvent the series for a new era.
Earlier this month, insiders claimed that multiple long-serving characters are facing uncertain futures as bosses attempt to “modernise” the programme and introduce fresh drama into the village.
Among the names repeatedly linked to possible departures is Jimmy King actor Nick Miles, whose character has been a fixture of the soap for more than two decades. Although nothing has been officially confirmed, rumours surrounding Jimmy’s future have continued to intensify following reports that upcoming storylines could dramatically alter the King family forever.
Meanwhile, fans were recently stunned after hearing speculation surrounding Vinny Dingle actor Bradley Johnson. Sources claimed the actor may be preparing to leave later this year after an emotional storyline connected to the Dingle family.
Neither ITV nor the actor have formally confirmed the reports, though viewers have already begun theorising online about how Vinny’s story could potentially come to an end.
Adding to the uncertainty, Olivia Bromley’s future as Dawn Fletcher has also become the subject of intense discussion among fans. Several soap insiders suggested Dawn could be written out following a major betrayal storyline expected to air later this summer.
As if that wasn’t enough drama, Georgia Jay recently confirmed her departure from the series, bringing an end to her time as Steph Miligan. Her exit announcement shocked many viewers, especially because Steph had quickly become a central figure in several ongoing storylines.
Despite the growing list of exits, producers appear determined to balance the departures with the return of iconic former characters capable of reigniting excitement among viewers.
One of the biggest announcements came with confirmation that Patsy Kensit will reprise her role as the legendary Sadie King after more than 20 years away from the village. Her comeback has already generated enormous excitement among longtime fans who remember Sadie as one of the soap’s most glamorous and ruthless characters.
Speaking about her return, Kensit shared her enthusiasm for stepping back into the role.
“I’m thrilled to be returning,” she said. “Sadie was such an unforgettable character to play. There’s always unfinished business when it comes to someone like her.”
Soap bosses have remained deliberately secretive about the details surrounding Sadie’s comeback storyline, but producers have teased that her return will create “shockwaves” throughout the village and place several established characters in serious danger.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw recently hinted that viewers should prepare for explosive confrontations, betrayals, and family secrets once Sadie reappears.
“There are characters in the village who think they’ve escaped the past,” Shaw explained. “Sadie’s return is going to change that very quickly.”
Fans have already started speculating about which members of the King family could become entangled in her dramatic return plot. Some theories suggest Sadie may arrive with hidden motives connected to revenge, while others believe she could become involved in a dangerous business scheme that threatens multiple residents.
Alongside the cast shake-up, Emmerdale producers are reportedly planning several huge storylines for the second half of the year. Recent teaser clips have hinted at devastating fires, emotional family breakdowns, secret affairs, and at least one major death storyline that could permanently alter the future of the village.
One particular teaser sparked major discussion online after fans noticed clues suggesting multiple homes may be destroyed in a mysterious blaze. Viewers have since been desperately trying to work out who could be responsible.
Theories range from accidental disaster to deliberate revenge, with several fans convinced that the fire storyline could tie directly into the arrival of returning characters.
Meanwhile, others believe the upcoming episodes may lead to one of the soap’s biggest cliffhangers in years.
Despite concerns over exits, many loyal viewers remain optimistic about the future of Emmerdale. Fans continue to praise the show’s ability to reinvent itself while still maintaining the emotional storytelling and family drama that has kept audiences invested for decades.
For now, at least, Dominic Brunt’s reassurance about staying on the show has offered some much-needed comfort to worried fans.
Still, with so many rumours continuing to circulate and producers teasing “huge surprises” ahead, viewers are convinced that the drama in the village is only just beginning.
And if recent months have proven anything, it’s that absolutely nobody in Emmerdale is ever truly safe.
